One-Year-Old Injured in Two-Vehicle Northeast Iowa Crash

A one-year-old from Butler County was among three people injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in northeast Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol says the wreck occurred just before 7 a.m. on Highway 20 near mile marker 290, about 10 miles east of Manchester. A GMC Yukon driven by 22-year-old Jacob Ahlers of Greeley was eastbound when the vehicle drifted onto the shoulder of the road. When Ahlers overcorrected the path of the SUV, it went to the opposite side of the road, through the median, and into the path of the westbound Dodge Caravan driven by 22-year-old Jamie Weekley of Aplington. The vehicles collided head on.

Weekley was taken by air ambulance to University Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC)in Iowa City, while a passenger, 1-year-old Carter Shepard, was transported by Dyersville Ambulance to MercyOne Medical Center in Dubuque. Ahlers was injured and taken by ground ambulance to UIHC.

Delaware and Dubuque county sheriff’s departments, Dyersville Police Department, Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement, and the Farley, Dyersville and Manchester ambulance services also assisted with the crash, which remains under investigation.
