Charles City Officials Host LOST Q&A at McDonalds
Charles City voters with questions about the one-cent local option sales tax (LOST) on the ballot in next week’s special election were able to get answers directly from city officials Friday morning.
City Administrator Steve Diers and Mayor Dean Andrews held a Q & A session at the Charles City McDonald’s to chat with citizens about any concerns or questions about the tax and the vote next Tuesday.
Andrews reminds voters that approval of LOST next week continues a sales tax that has benefited the City for years.
Diers notes that City street improvements, including last year’s Highway 18 repaving project, wouldn’t be possible without LOST.
If approved next week, the new LOST would take effect January 1st, 2023, with 90% of the revenues going for street projects and 10% going towards public safety including police, fire and ambulance services.
The unincorporated areas of Floyd County also head to the polls Tuesday to vote on a separate county LOST tax, which would also renew January 1st, 2023 with all funds going towards secondary roads.
