One-Cent Local Option Sales Taxes Officially Approved in Floyd County

Results are now official in last week’s special election votes on one-Cent local option sales and service taxes (LOSST) for the City of Charles City and unincorporated areas of Floyd County.

A canvass of the results Tuesday by the Floyd County Board of Supervisors showed no changes in the final ballot counts. The Charles City LOSST, Public Measure A on the ballot, passed with about 86% approval. There were 325 YES votes to 52 NO votes. The tax will take effect January 1st, 2023, for a 10-year run with 90% of the revenue going towards street projects and up to 10% for public safety including police, fire and ambulance services.

The unincorporated Floyd County LOSST, Public Measure B, passed with almost 75% approval. There were 205 YES votes to 72 NO votes. That tax will also take effect January 1st, 2023 with 100% of the revenues generated over its 10-year-lifespan continuing to go towards secondary roads.
