Medical Emergency Leads to Mason City Transit Bus Crash

A medical episode for a transit bus driver led to a collision with a minivan Friday morning in Mason City.
The Iowa State Patrol says the crash occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of HyVee West on 4th Street Southwest. 69-year-old Terry Wolters of Mason City was driving the transit bus when he suffered a medical emergency, lost control of the bus, and swerved into the path of a Dodge Caravan driven by 76-year-old Bobby Dirks, also of Mason City. The bus struck the van head-on and then struck a tree while the car was spun around.
Clear Lake Fire and Ambulance transported Wolters to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries, Mason City Fire and Ambulance took both Dirks and a passenger in his vehicle, 77-year-old Joyce Dirks of Mason City, to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
