Charles City Man Facing New Assault Charges

A Charles City man is facing new assault charges following his latest arrest last week.

The Charles City Police Department says they responded to a report of domestic abuse assault in the 400 block of South Jackson Street shortly after 6:30 p.m. Thursday. An investigation led to the arrest of 28-year-old Brandon Starkey later in the night for domestic abuse assault displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor.

According to court records, Starkey is accused of throwing the victim around by her hair, hitting her in the face, spitting on her, placing the barrel of a shotgun into her mouth and threatening to shoot her. Authorities say the victim was taken to Floyd County Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Since his arrest, Starkey was additionally charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony.

Starkey is also facing charges of willful injury causing serious injury, a Class C felony; and willful injury causing bodily injury, a Class D felony, following his arrest on October 31, 2021. His trial on those charges was recently rescheduled to April 26th in Floyd County District Court.
