Murder Arrest Made in Connection with Missing Northeast Iowa Man

A Decorah man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a northeast Iowa man missing since Friday.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office says 43-year-old Aaron Gary Whittle was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for the death 74-year-old of Lawrence Paul Whittle, also of Decorah.  In a Facebook post at 1:30 a.m. Monday, the department also said the investigation is ongoing and they will not be releasing any additional information at this time. 

The post does not indicate if the body of Lawrence Whittle has been found. 

Whittle was reported missing Saturday and family members say he was last heard from at about 8 a.m. Friday. His vehicle was located at Moe Park about 10 miles east of Decorah and  an extensive search was done throughout Moe Park and the surrounding area Saturday morning by law enforcement, fire crews, emergency management and EMS. This is an ongoing investigation.
