State Sen. Brown Officially Files to Run in New District 30

District 26 State Senator Waylon Brown ( R ) of Osage has officially filed to run for the new Senate District 30.

District 26 currently consists of Brown’s home county of Mitchell County, plus Floyd, Chickasaw, Howard and Worth counties, the western third of Winneshiek County, and the eastern fourth of Cerro Gordo County. Based on the 2020 census, Mitchell and Worth counties shift to the new District 30, which will also include a northwest corner of Floyd County and all of Cerro Gordo County.

Brown filed his candidate papers last Wednesday to run in the new Senate District 30, but the Republican says his focus remains on the 2022 legislative session and doing what’s best for his constituents in District 26.

Democrat Whitney Mixdorf of Clear Lake has filed candidate papers to face Brown in the race for the new Senate District 30 seat. Current District 27 State Senator Amanda Ragan of Mason City, also a Democrat, has decided not to run for office in the new Senate District 30.
