National Ag Week Salutes Industry, Heritage

It’s “National Ag Week” saluting agriculture, its people and its heritage.

Floyd County Farm Bureau’s Roxann Bjelica says it’s easy to think of agriculture in terms of cattle, pigs, tractors, and the farmers who work in the field and tend to the livestock, but the ag community and industry is so much more.

Fellow Floyd County Farm Bureau member, Bret Spurgin, is also an Ag Instructor at Charles City High School and serves as co-advisor to the school’s FFA chapter. He says the county has a rich history of getting youth involved in agriculture.

Spurgin adds that the Central Springs Ag-Ed Boosters are conducting a fundraising campaign this week to help get the organization up and running.

The theme for this year’s Ag Week is “Growing a Climate for Tomorrow.”
