Expansion of Charles City Chicken Plant Could Close Portion of North Main Street

Officials continue to discuss the possibility of closing a portion of North Main Street in Charles City for expansion of the Pure Prairie Farms (PPF) chicken processing plant.

City Administrator Steve Diers says the target area remains North Main Street from Lane Street to the intersection with North Grand Avenue.

Diers says closing that section of North Main Street along PPF would also take a dangerous intersection out of commission.

Diers adds that the street closure isn’t a done deal yet and requires additional conversations including talks with the City’s Improvement Association and Canadian National Railroad, which co-own Dana Park across the street from the chicken plant.

PPF has been targeting late June/early July for re-opening the plant that has been shut down since August of 2019.
