ROW Agreement for Expanded Broadband Fiber in Charles City Approved

Expanding the availability of broadband fiber service in Charles City took a large step forward Monday night.

At their regular meeting, the City Council approved a Right of Way (ROW) agreement that would allow Nora Springs-based Omnitel Communications to have access to the ROW within City limits. Omnitel’s initial plans call for expanding broadband capabilities in downtown Charles City and in the area of Charles City High School.

City Administrator Steve Diers says the “blanket” ROW agreement could set the stage for future expansion.

Councilman Patrick Lumley says getting Omnitel set for expanded broadband is a great move for the City.

Diers adds that Omnitel will still be required to apply for and get permits approved by the City as they add project areas for future broadband expansion.
