City Officials Tour Charles City Chicken Processing Plant

The new owners of the former Simply Essentials chicken processing plant in Charles City continue to ready the facilities for a return to operation after being shut down since August 2019.

Last week, city officials toured the plant now owned by Pure Prairie Farms (PPF). Mayor Dean Andrews says it was his first time inside the plant.

Andrews says PPF is still targeting a reboot of operations for late June/early July with about 50 employees to start, but the company would like to eventually employ over 250 people.

Andrews adds that his conversations with PPF officials indicate they are committed to making the plant successful and to being a good corporate citizen for Charles City.
