The search for the next Superintendent for the Charles City School District could be back to square one.
The School Board was slated to interview two candidates Tuesday afternoon to possibly replace outgoing Superintendent Mike Fisher, but has canceled the session because there are no candidates to interview. One candidate who had an interview with another school district Monday night has bowed out of the running for the Charles City post, while a second candidate, who only wanted to be considered for the job as interim Superintendent, also removed himself from the finalist pool.
The candidate list was already reduced over the weekend, when Roger Wilcox of Grundmeyer Leader Services, the firm leading the search for Fisher’s replacement, informed the School Board that one finalist had accepted an educational position in Nebraska, while a second took him or herself out of consideration for Charles City because they have an interview for a superintendent position in a different school district, also on Tuesday. Wilcox adds that an alternate candidate is also out of the running because he or shewas interviewing elsewhere.
The School Board will now need to decide what’s next in their efforts to find a successor to Fisher, who’s resignation is effective June 30th, when he leaves to become the Superintendent of schools in his hometown of Oskaloosa. Fisher has been with Charles City since 2018.
