Flood Warning for Portions of Floyd, Cerro Gordo, Worth Counties

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines has issued a Flood Warning for areas along the Winnebago River at Mason City affecting Cerro Gordo, Floyd and Worth counties.

The NWS says the flood warning is in effect now until late tonight as minor flooding occurs following heavy rains in the area Tuesday night. At 10 feet, there is widespread flooding of city parks and water reaches the underside of Mason City’s 12th Street Northeast bridge at the piers.

The NWS says flood stage is 10 feet and reports the level of the Winnebago River in the affected areas was at 10.9 feet and falling as of 8:30 a.m. However, the river is expected to rise again to a crest of 11 feet this afternoon and fall below flood stage late this evening.

The NWS adds that this crest compares to a previous crest of 10.9 feet on June 24, 1981.
