Charles City Open 4 Business Contest Now Open

Entrepreneurs who could use extra dollars to expand and grow their business within the Charles City Main Street district are encouraged to apply for the “Open 4 Business” contest.

Main Street Charles City launched the competition in 2015 as an opportunity for businesses, located within a state-designated Main Street district, to compete for a chance to win up to $28,000 in grant funds to assist with development or expansion projects.

Businesses must complete an online application and submit a short video outlining their business idea and how it will benefit the local economic community. A 25% cash match is required and businesses must have been in operation since May 1, 2021, to be eligible.

Grant funds are administered by the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s Downtown Resource Center and the Main Street Iowa program.

Each designated Main Street community may submit one local business applicant for the state competition to be held in Pella August 1st.  The local deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m. April 25th

If multiple applications are received, the Business Improvement Committee of Main Street Charles City will determine the application most competitive for the state contest. Applicants can contact Community Development Director Mark Wicks prior to the local deadline to discuss their projects.
