Missouri Man Charged with Attempted Murder in North Iowa

A Missouri man is facing a charge of attempted murder following a weekend shooting in north Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says Algona Police received a report of shots fired on North Park Drive in Algona and a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Officers responded and located a male victim who had been shot at, but not hit, and identified other witnesses to the altercation, which determined that the two men involved knew each other.

The suspect vehicle was later stopped by the Iowa State Patrol and Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement on Interstate 35 near Williams, Iowa.  Authorities identified 20-year-old Michael Street of Fredericktown, Missouri, as the person who allegedly fired the shots. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder, a Class B felony. Street was being held in the Kossuth County Jail on a $500,000 cash only bond.

The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, the Clear Lake Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation also assisted in the investigation and apprehension of Street.
