New Hampton City Council Holds Tribe Trail Public Hearing Tonight (04.18)

The third and final phase of the Tribe Trail project in New Hampton still needs about $500,000 more funding to be completed.

The Tribe Trail committee has asked the City to provide matching grant funds of up to $250,000 on an as-needed basis. The request is the subject of a public hearing during tonight’s New Hampton City Council meeting.

Mayor Bobby Schwickerath has said the request is not unreasonable, given that, thus far, the project has been self-sustaining.

Schwickerath notes that the City may not need to provide the full $250,000 in matching grant funding, but knowing the support is available helps when the Tribe Trail committee applies for grant funding, which often requires some matching funds on a local level.

Tonight’s New Hampton City Council meeting begins at 7 p.m. in City Hall, with the Tribe Trail public hearing listed as item “K” on the agenda.

Prior to the regular meeting, the Committee as a Whole will gather at 6 p.m. at the Economic Development office to discuss funding possibilities other than property taxation to fund Phase III of the Tribe Trail.” It’s open to the public, but discussion will only be among council members.
