Charles City, Pure Prairie Farms Continue Street Talk

Discussions continue between the City of Charles City and the new owners of the former Simply Essentials chicken processing plant about utilizing a section of North Main Street as part of their operation.

City Administrator Steve Diers says Pure Prairie Farms (PPF) has plans to expand and access to the street is the best option.

Diers adds that allowing PPF to utilize that one block section of North Main Street is seen as a key piece for the plant’s long term success, but the City also is prepared just in case.

Diers says more details need to be worked out and no official timeline has been established as to when the street will be closed off between North Grand and Lane Street. He says PPF is still targeting late June or early July for a reboot of the facilities that have been shutdown since August of 2019.
