Interim Charles City Schools Superintendent Interviews Monday

The Charles City School Board will meet in special session Monday to interview the three finalists for the district’s interim superintendent position.

The board and an administrative interview team will go into closed session to conduct the interviews starting at noon at Trinity United Methodist Church. When the board returns to open session following the interviews, anticipated between 5 and 5:30 p.m., they could take action to direct Grundmeyer Leader Services to offer an interim superintendent contract to one of the candidates.

Finalists slated to interview include Dr. Anne Lundquist, who recently served as chief officer of academic services for Ankeny Community Schools. She was also superintendent of Red Lake Schools in Minnesota and a special program manager for the Minnesota Department of Education. Lundquist is currently a classroom teacher at Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Charles City.

Dr. Joel Appelgate is currently superintendent of Oberlin Public Schools in northwest Kansas and previously served as superintendent for Cozad Community Schools in Nebraska.

Joseph Brown has served as superintendent of Fairmont Area Schools in Minnesota, is currently the interim superintendent of Clear Creek Amana Schools near Iowa City, and was superintendent of Grand Meadow Schools in Minnesota.

The new interim superintendent will begin serving the school district effective July 1st, taking over for outgoing Superintendent Mike Fisher, who is resigning effective June 30th to become the superintendent of schools in his hometown of Oskaloosa. Grundmeyer, the firm leading the search for Fisher’s replacement, helped bring him to Charles City in 2018.
