Charles City Whitewater Challenge This Weekend

It’s a milestone weekend for the Charles City Challenge Whitewater Festival along the Cedar River.

Charles City Whitewater hosts its 10th annual event, which Chamber of Commerce Tourism Coordinator Ginger Williams says has featured different competitions every year based on competitors’ feedback.

There has become one staple of the Challenge that isn’t part of the official competition, the Cardboard Boat and Hooligan Race.

Cardboard participants are asked to pre-register with the chamber, but Williams says on-site registration by noon Saturday will also be accepted. The race itself starts at 12:30 p.m.

Friday, volunteers are welcome to help join in the river cleanup from 1 to 3 p.m. and there’s a river surfing clinic from 4 to 6 p.m.  Competition Saturday begins at 10 a.m. and Williams adds that there are also family activities on shore throughout the day.

The event wraps up with Sunday Funday.
