BBQ Teams Still Sought for Charles City Rib Challenge

Barbeque smokers are invited to put their food skills to the test during the 2022 Charles City Barbeque Challenge.

The Challenge on Saturday, July 9th in Central Park is open to BBQ smokers of all levels, from first-timers to seasoned veterans and registrations are still being accepted. Over $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded and the public will be able to sample the competitors’ ribs starting at 4:45 p.m. and vote for a People’s Choice Award winner. 

Official Kansas City BBQ rules will be followed in the competitive judging of the contest. Entry fee is $100 and includes St. Louis-style ribs provided by Fareway. Teams and individuals can register through the Charles City Chamber of Commerce. The BBQ Challenge is being held in conjunction with the Rotary Car Show downtown and Christmas in July retail promotion on July 9th.

Public VIP sampling tickets are $35 and include rib samples from all the participants, along with two sides. Only a limited number of VIP Tickets are available, but there will also be Ala Carte Tickets good for a choice of two rib samples for $5 sold the day of the event.
