Progress in construction of the new Highway 218/18/27 interchange at Floyd continues to become more visible.
And, while things like bridge piers are obvious signs of construction, Pete Hjelmstad with the Mason City District office of the Iowa DOT says they also show the pre-planning that went into the road project.
Still, Hjelmstad notes there are also hiccups that occur during construction like recent events associated with the current head-to-head pattern of traffic.
Hjelmstad says traffic also had to be detoured for a couple of hours recently after a semi struck a concrete barrier. He adds that, barring any major unforeseen, the traffic pattern will remain unchanged all the way into this fall.
