Keep Water Supply Handy for Recreational Fires

It’s the summer camping season, but recreational fires are also popular in driveways and on backyard patios this time of year.

If you’re going to fire up your fire pit, Charles City Fire Chief Eric Whipple advises keeping a water supply handy at all times.

Whipple also reminds Charles City residents that there are restrictions on the wood you can burn in your fire pit.

Whipple also adds that before you conduct any open or controlled burning, contact your local fire department and alert them of your intentions and location. He says that could eliminate an unnecessary trip by firefighters if someone from the public calls to report a fire that could be yours.

Open burning is not allowed in the city limits of Charles City.
