Grassley Challenger Franken Makes Stop in Charles City

Retired Navy Admiral Mike Franken, Democratic challenger to incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, spoked to a group of about two dozen supporters Sunday in Charles City.

Franken noted that there’s blame for both parties with the current rate of inflation.

Franken says it will take a steady effort to beat Grassley.

Franken acknowledges he has about 8-to-10 points to make up in the polls and close the gap between him and Grassley, who is seeking his 8th term.

A Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll conducted July 10-13 shows 47% of likely Iowa voters would vote for the longtime Republican senator if the election was held the day they were asked, while 39% said they would vote for Franken.

The last time Grassley won an election by just eight percentage points was his first election to the U.S. Senate in 1980, when he defeated then-incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator John Culver.
