A Nebraska man driving drunk when he struck a Mason City woman, who later died, is facing over two decades in prison.
Court documents state Christopher Rathfon of Omaha was driving a pickup truck on June 8, 2021, when he hit 62-year-old Dawn Merrick of Mason City as she walked out of Fleet Farm in Mason City. Merrick died from her injuries two days later.
Police say Rathfon was tested at the scene with a blood alcohol content of .255, more than three times the legal limit of .08 BAC.
36-year-old Rathfon pleaded guilty in May to homicide by vehicle-OWI, a Class B felony, and was sentenced Monday to up to 25 years behind bars.
