No State Title for Top-Seeded Central Springs Softball Team

The Class 2A State Softball Tournament will not end in a state title for Central Springs.

The top-seeded Panthers lost their semifinal game Wednesday night in Fort Dodge, falling to 4th-seeded Iowa City Regina 7-4. Central Springs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Regals countered with three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Central Springs is now 32-2 and will play in the third place game against 33-4 North Union, the tournament’s two-seed, at 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

In Class 1A state softball Wednesday, Newman Catholic beat Remsen St. Mary’s 5-4 to finish in a tie for fifth.

At the Class 1A State Baseball Tournament Wednesday in Carroll, Newman Catholic’s season came to a close after the Knights were blitzed by New London, which scored nine runs in the second inning en route to a 16-1, four-inning victory.
