New Hampton High School Track to Take Next Steps This Week

Resurfacing the New Hampton High School track is “on track” to take its next steps forward.

Cracks developed in the surface of the 17-year-old track inside the football stadium and the School Board approved replacing it last November. During their July board meeting, Superintendent Jay Jurrens informed them that the district was going to shave about $4,500 off the project, which is expected to ramp up this week.

In addition to the track resurfacing, fundraising efforts by the Chickasaw Outdoor Athletic Complex Project (COACP) will help pay to move the high jump back inside the track, extend the homestretch/staging area of the track, and add a concrete walkway.

Officials have said that making the track improvements were vital for New Hampton to continue hosting track meets, especially larger revenue-generating events like conference and district meets.
