IUB Sets Northeast Iowa Public Hearings on Carbon Pipeline Project

The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) has established a series of public hearings for one of the companies looking to build a carbon capture pipeline with a branch starting in northeast Iowa.

Navigator CO2 Ventures wants its Heartland Greenway pipeline to start with the Big River United Energy ethanol plant in Dyersville and build west to POET bioprocessing ethanol plants in Fairbank and in Shell Rock. Navigator is also planning to build a branch starting with the Valero Renewables ethanol plant near Charles City.

The IUB held a public hearing for Navigator’s Heartland Greenway carbon pipeline in Floyd County back in January. Later this month, the IUB will conduct additional public meetings for landowners in Delaware, Buchanan, Fayette, Bremer, and Butler counties. Heartland Greenway representatives will also be on hand for those public hearings to be held in Manchester and Independence on August 22nd; in Oelwein and Waverly on August 23rd; and in Greene and Iowa Falls on August 24th.     See the schedule details here

In addition to Navigator CO2 Ventures, Summit Carbon Solutions is also looking to build a carbon pipeline through north Iowa with its easternmost starting point with the Homeland Energy Solutions ethanol plant between Lawler and New Hampton. Its Midwest Carbon Express would then go west through Chickasaw, Floyd and Cerro Gordo counties among others.
