Chickasaw County Appoints Interim County Auditor

A New Hampton native with a background in teaching accounting has been appointed interim Chickasaw County Auditor.

During their regular meeting Monday, the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors named Sheila Shekleton to fill in for Stephanie Mashek, who resigned her post effective July 30th.  Shekleton, who has an MBA with an emphasis in accounting, was born in New Hampton and taught accounting through Kaplan University and the University of Northern Iowa for 21 years. She and her husband have operated Shek Transportation since 1998.

Shekleton will begin her duties on August 22nd, a week earlier than previously expected when she approached Supervisor Jacob Hackman about the position. She will serve as interim County Auditor through this November’s general election, although she could officially run for the office as well.

No one else expressed interest in the interim position, which opened up after Mashek submitted her resignation to Supervisors July 11th.

Mashek was elected Chickasaw County Auditor in November 2020 and had served in that role from January 1, 2021 until she resigned. Her elected term was slated to go through December 31, 2024.
