Floyd County EMS Advisory Council Schedules Second Meeting

The Floyd County EMS Advisory Council will hold its second public meeting Tuesday night.

The council is charged with making recommendations to the Floyd County Board of Supervisors on how much the County could assess in a tax levy to fund emergency medical services including ambulances and first responders.

Charles City City Councilman Patrick Lumley is on the advisory council and says, in addition to the level of the tax levy, they’ll also consider how long the tax could be in effect.

Of course, Lumley says the tax levy must help cover the costs of providing essential emergency medical services in the County.

Lumley also noted that they must make their recommendations by the end of August to the Board of Supervisors to make their decision whether to place the “making EMS an essential service” resolution on the ballot this November, which would then still require a 60% majority vote to pass.

The EMS Advisory Council next meets Tuesday (08.09) night immediately after the Floyd County Ambulance Commission meeting, which starts at 5 p.m. at Charles City City Hall.
