Five People Injured After SUV Crashes into Northeast Iowa Restaurant

Five people were injured when an SUV crashed into a northeast Iowa restaurant Thursday morning.

The Decorah Police Department says several 911 calls were received just after 10 a.m. Thursday to report a vehicle had driven into the Family Table Restaurant causing multiple injuries. At the scene, an investigation determined that 86-year-old Laura Boice of Decorah was pulling her 2013 Ford expedition into a parking spot on the south side of the establishment, but failed to stop the vehicle before it crashed into the building.

Authorities say half of Boice’s vehicle entered the Family Table, causing extensive damage to the restaurant and injuring at least five patrons.  All were transported by Winneshiek County Ambulance to Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The Decorah Fire Department had to free Boice from her vehicle, but she was uninjured.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office along with several restaurant customers and employees also assisted at the scene.
