Floyd County Man to be Arraigned Monday on Rape Charges

A Floyd County man accused of rape is scheduled to be formally charged on Monday.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office arrested 61-year-old Rodney McCarty of Floyd last month of charges of first-degree sexual abuse, a Class A felony; first-degree burglary, a Class B felony; plus false imprisonment and OWI, both serious misdemeanors.

According to the criminal complaints, the sheriff’s office received a call on July 27th about a man breaking into a home and raping a woman the day before.  Their investigation also discovered that the female victim had been held against her will for about two hours and was physically and sexually assaulted.  Investigators say the victim got away when a friend arrived at her house. McCarty is also accused of hitting the victim’s friend, leading to an additional assault charge.

Court documents state deputies recovered an Iowa license plate and man’s clothes at the scene and traced the license back to McCarty, who was eventually located in his vehicle, behind the wheel unconscious, naked and intoxicated. Before law enforcement located McCarty, he’s also accused of hitting a horse and buggy with his vehicle on Quail Avenue just north of Floyd and fleeing the scene.

McCarty is scheduled for arraignment in Floyd County District Court Monday morning.
