Programs Identified for Charles City-Based NIACC Academy

While the location of the new NIACC regional career academy in Charles City hasn’t been determined yet, the programs to be offered to area high school students are.

NIACC is partnering with area school districts including Charles City, Nashua-Plainfield, Osage, Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock, Riceville, North Butler, and Clarksville to give high school students access to career and technical education (CTE) programs and state-of-the-art equipment in high-demand fields.

During a presentation to the Charles City School Board last month, NIACC’s Steve Schultz said four programs will be offered initially.

Schultz admitted he can’t be sure those are the right academies to offer, but you have to start somewhere.

Originally, officials targeted building the center new on the Floyd County Fairgrounds, but Schultz says the cost continues to rise.

Schultz said the alternate site is also under consideration which could save money and allow for possible future expansion. Officials had hoped to have a decision by the end of July, however Schultz says they are still in the internal decision-making process regarding location and bid timeline, which could become more clear in the coming weeks.
