Floyd County Sheriff’s Office K9 Training Starts Monday

After almost 25 years, the next step in bringing the K9 program back to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office will be taken next week.

Deputy Luke Chatfield, the dog’s handler, says he and K9, Sirius, will begin four weeks of dual-purpose training Monday (09.05).

In recent years, Floyd County has had to borrow K9s from the Mitchell and Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Offices, but in July the department announced that the time had come to have its own K9 program again in Floyd County.

Like most sheriff’s departments, the Floyd County Sheriffis’ K9 program will be donation-driven. Initial fundraising efforts look to help cover start up costs estimated at $30,000.

Details on how you can donate can be found in this story on our station website.
