One Person Shot, Suspect Arrested in Weekend Mason City Shooting

One person was shot and a suspect is in custody following a shooting in Mason City over the Labor Day Weekend.

Mason City Police say they responded to a report of gunfire in the 900 block of North Washington Avenue Sunday morning just after 4 a.m. Officers found a male victim in the 100 block of 10th Street Northwest who had suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital by medics, but his condition was unknown

MCPD said their investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at a nearby residence where a handgun was recovered and 31-year-old Reggie Williams of Mason City was arrested.  He was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, a Class D felony, and is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

The Iowa DCI and Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation, which is ongoing. Anyone with information should contact the Mason City Police Department.

Court records show Williams was convicted of domestic abuse assault, second offense, a Class D felony, in February of 2021.
