North Iowa Man Shoots Woman with Arrow, Chases Her with Knife

A north Iowa man, charged with attempted murder after a shooting a woman with an arrow, also chased the victim with a knife.

Mason City Police say their investigation began with a citizen’s report of a male and a female yelling in the area of 1st Street Northwest and North Washington Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. Friday night. A short time later, another person called saying the female had been shot with an arrow. The unidentified woman was taken to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center  and was taken into surgery.

MCPD says the alleged shooter of the arrow, 31-year-old Casey Larson of Mason City, was restrained by a bystander before police arrived to take him into custody. Larson was charged with attempted murder, a Class B felony.

Court records also show that Larson chased the woman with a knife after shooting her in the abdomen with the arrow and that “the defendant stated to officers that his intent was to cause death to the victim.”.

Police Chief Jeff Brinkley that the two people involved had no known relation and the  investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact MCPD.
