15-Year-Old Arrested After Making Threat to New Hampton Schools

A 15-year-old male juvenile has been arrested for making threats against New Hampton Schools.

New Hampton Police Zach Nosbisch says his department was notified by school  administration of a possible threat against the school regarding a shooting Wednesday afternoon. NHPD immediately began an investigation, working in close contact with school administrators.

Thursday morning, NHPD made contact with a 15-year-old juvenile male and took him into custody on a charge of threat of terrorism, a Class D Felony. He was transported to the North Iowa Juvenile Detention center in Waterloo. Nosbisch notes that due to the age of  the offender in this incident and throughout the investigation, no names will be released.

Nosbisch also adds, “The incident has been thoroughly investigated and it has been determined that there is no credible evidence of an active threat to our students or staff. As always, the safety of our students and staff is most  important in all decisions regarding our schools.”

After the threat was received, the New Hampton School Board distributed a letter about the situation to families in the school district. The letter noted that the possible threat was made after classes had been dismissed Wednesday afternoon.
