Charles City Garbage Rate to Increase in October

The garbage rate will go up next month for Charles City residents.

Monday night, the City Council approved a contract-allowed request by LJP/Jendro Sanitation for a 7.4% increase in garbage fees based on the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) over the past year.

Councilman Delaine Freesemen outlined the price increases based on the size of the resident’s garbage bin.

Councilman Patrick Lumley noted that the City does not benefit financially from the increased fees.

With the rate increase taking effect October 1st, Charles City residents will pay $14.54 a month for the 35-gallon wheeled tote; $19.41 a month for the 65-gallon; and $24.40 a month for the 95-gallon.
