A Charles City man has been charged with animal abuse.
The Charles City Police Department arrested 33-year-old Joshua Finney on a warrant, shortly before 8:30 Wednesday night, in the 400 block of Clark Street. Finney has been charged with animal abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor.
According to the criminal complaint, Finney is accused of killing a cat on Tuesday night. A family member told authorities they found multiple spots of blood around the house and they were unable to locate the kitten. Witnesses also told police that Finney was seen carrying a garbage bag that same night. The cat was found dead the next day. Finney claims he killed the animal in self-defense.
Bail for Finney was set at $2,000 cash-only bond, which he posted on Thursday.
