EMS Advisory Council Hosts Town Hall Monday Night in Rockford

The Floyd County EMS Advisory Council continues to host town hall meetings in advance of November’s vote on a resolution to declare emergency medical services (EMS) as essential services.

If the measure is approved, it would allow the County to use a combination of a property tax and income surcharge to raise up to $556,000 a year for 10 years, with revenue going to fund the various ambulances and first responders who provide service in the County.

In summarizing town halls to date, Advisory Chair and Charles City City Councilman Patrick Lumley sayseveryone deeply cares about EMS within Floyd County and at a state level. As expected, the majority of the questions asked during the past week have been on the overall cost, how the costs will be collected as the collection of property tax and state local option income surtax are collected at different intervals, oversight of the costs, left over generated revenues, etc.”

Lumley adds they expect the same line of questions into October.

The EMS Council has scheduled a series of town halls to educate voters how the resolution works, what it means to future EMS services, and how the tax could be assessed.

The Council hosted a town hall meeting at the Rudd Fire Station Sunday and will host another session Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Rockford Fire Station. There’s also a town hall at 7 p.m. Thursday night at the NIACC Center in Charles City.
