Charles City Couple Loses House in Weekend Fire

The home of a couple on Charles City’s east side is a total loss after a weekend fire.

Firefighters were called to the home of Kayla and Allandis Russ on Cottonwood Place in Oak Creek Estates Sunday. Multiple fire departments responded to the blaze and firefighters had to return to the scene at about 2 a.m. Monday morning when the fire started burning again.

Kayla Russ tells our news department she and her husband were asleep when she heard a faint beeping noise and could smell something burning. She says that when she looked out the window and could see a lot of orange flames and when she opened the bedroom door, she could hear the windows imploding with black smoke rolling in.

Russ says she and husband were able to evacuate the home along with all their animals.

First Citizens Bank in Charles City has established an account for those who wish to donate to the family’s recovery fund. Monetary contributions can also be deposited in Russ’ Venmo account. Donations of clothing and other material items including toiletries can be dropped off at Slinger Chiropractic in Charles City.

We will bring you more information as it becomes official.
