Authorities Investigate Apparent Drowning of 4-Year-Old Northeast Iowa Boy

Authorities are investigating the death of a four-year-old northeast Iowa boy who was found deceased late Friday night.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office says they were notified of the missing boy at about 5 p.m. Friday evening. The child was reportedly last seen at around 3:45 p.m. Friday in the front yard of his residence in the 1400 block of 145th Street in Fairbank.

Multiple agencies responded to assist with the search of the residence, curtilage, surrounding fields, ditches, structures and ponds.  The search ended about six-and-a-half hours later when the boy was found dead in a neighboring pond just after 11:30 p.m. Friday night.
