Floyd County Board of Supervisors Gets Complete Makeover

The Floyd County Board of Supervisors will get a complete overhaul come January 1st.

In Tuesday’s election, Democrat Mark Kuhn, a former supervisor, will rejoin the Board after winning the new Supervisor District 1 seat. Kuhn received 875 votes with Republican Julius Bryant finishing second with 708 votes and current Board Chair Doug Kamm placing third with 459 votes. 

Republican Dennis Keifer bested Democrat Josh Mack for Supervisor of Floyd County District 2. Keifer received 940 votes to 779 for Mack, good for almost 55% of the total ballots cast.  

In the race for Floyd County District 3 Supervisor, Republican Jeff Hawbaker got 875 votes to hold off Democrat Jim Lundberg with 716 votes and No Party candidate Jayson Ryner finishing third with 320 votes. 

Tuesday marked the first general election since 1970 in which the three supervisor positions were not elected at-large. A special election in August 2021 resulted in a switch to supervisors being elected in three districts with candidates residing in the district they wish to represent.

As a result, current Supervisors Linda Tjaden, Roy Schiwckerath and Doug Kamm opted not to run for re-election, although Kamm later changed his mind to, technically, run as a No-Party candidate. Kamm said he sought re-election to provide some continuity to the Board in the new year, but voters instead opted for three new Supervisors.

Kuhn, Keifer and Hawbaker will be sworn into office January 1st;  Kuhn for a two-year term with Keifer and Hawbaker serving four-year terms.
