New Hampton Looking for New Police Chief

Less than a month after Chickasaw County named a new sheriff, the City of New Hampton could also be in the market for a new Police Chief.

During their meeting Monday morning, the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors discussed the appointment of current New Hampton Police Chief Zach Nosbisch to become Chief Deputy with the sheriff’s office. He would take over the post previously held by Ryan Shawver, who Supervisors elevated by appointment to replace former Sheriff Marty Hemann, who retired last month.

Shawver has been with the sheriff’s office since 2012, after serving as an officer with the New Hampton Police Department. Now, Shawver wants to draw from the NHPD to bring Nosbisch on board in the Sheriff’s office.

Nosbisch’s appointment is still likely to happen, but Supervisors opted to hold off filling the position after hearing from County Attorney David Laudner, who read an opinion from the County’s HR department.

With the position being posted Tuesday (02.07) to start the 10-day advertising period, the next regular meeting Supervisors could appoint Nosbisch is February 20th.

Nosbisch was scheduled to formally submit his resignation during Monday (02.06) night’s 7 p.m. regular meeting of the New Hampton City Council, but he told Supervisors that will have to wait until he is formally appointed to the sheriff’s office. Still, the City of New Hampton has begun advertising for Nosbisch’s replacement with applications due by February 24th.
