New Hampton Pool Lifeguards to Get Extra Pay, Extra Perk for Applying

In an effort to get more applicants, the New Hampton Park-Rec Department has increased wages for swimming pool lifeguards by $2 an hour, with starting pay at $12 an hour.

As an added incentive for early lifeguard applications, Director Tara Hackman says those who apply and sign up for their lifeguard course by Monday, February 27th, will get a local $25 gift card of their choice.

Like many swimming pools, New Hampton has struggled in recent years to keep regular pool hours because they couldn’t hire enough lifeguards.

Hackman says they also need water safety instructors, swim lesson aids, and concession stand/top-of-slide workers. Applications can be submitted online or stop in the Park-Rec office.

A New Hampton Parks & Recreation Facebook post reads that lifeguard training can be done in New Hampton May 19-21. Courses can also be taken through UNI or Wartburg, with course fees reimbursed to anyone that works at the New Hampton Pool this summer.
