While Charles City has been challenged by a shortage of lifeguards limiting their hours of operation for the Lions Field swimming pool to start the summer, New Hampton has experienced the opposite.
That’s New Hampton Park-Rec Director Tara Hackman, who says, after struggling in recent years with lifeguard shortages and unwanted pool closures, they had to change their lifeguard recruitment efforts. That includes an increase in pay, from $10 an hour last year to $12 per hour this year. Being flexible also helped.
Hackman says they could still use more lifeguards, who must be 15-years-old or older.
The New Hampton swimming pool will open for the season on Memorial Day, with new daily admission rates.
Daily pool hours will be noon to 1:30 pm for adult swim, then from 1:30 pm to 7 pm for open swim Monday through Saturday, with the pool closing at 5 pm on Sundays.
