IUB/Summit Host Pipeline Info Meetings in Floyd, Mitchell Counties

The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) hosted a pair of public meetings Tuesday (08.08) for a possible addition to Summit Carbon Solutions’ proposed carbon capture pipeline network in north Iowa.
Summit is seeking to add about 30 miles of pipeline to connect the Absolute Energy ethanol plant near St. Ansgar to its current proposed pipeline route near Rockford in Floyd County.Â
That’s Summit’s Jake Ketzner during a public meeting at the Youth Enrichment Center on the Floyd County Fairgrounds. He also noted that they also have voluntary easements with about 94% of landowners in Chickasaw County, about 84% in Cerro Gordo County, and about 73% across the state.
Opposition to the project was again vocal, with questions about the finanical influences that have companies pushing to get their pipelines built.
Another attendee challenged Summit’s use of language that gives the impression they’ve already been granted a permit to build their pipeline.
The IUB and Summit also hosted a meeting for landowners in Mitchell County Tuesday afternoon at the Cedar River Complex Events Center in Osage.Â
The IUB says Summit can apply for a permit for the new pipeline addition 30 days after the informational meetings. Meanwhile, an IUB evidentiary hearing for Summit’s original permit is set for August 22nd at the Cardiff Event Center at Fort Frenzy in Fort Dodge.
