North Iowa Man Dies After Being Trapped in Grain Bin

A north Iowa man is dead after he was trapped in a grain bin.Â
The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office says they received a 911 call at shortly after noon on Wednesday about a grain bin entrapment near the intersection of Iowa Highway 9 and Glass Avenue. First responders at the scene found 69-year-old Dennis Fischer of Mitchell trapped in the bin, about four miles west of Osage.
The Sheriff’s Office says rescuers were unable to free Fischer from the bin for an extended period of time and, despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mitchell County Sheriff Greg Beaver says, “As area producers continue with the harvest please be mindful of the dangers of entering a grain bin, operating equipment after long hours of work and the impatience of the motoring public on our roadways.â€
The Osage Fire Department, Mitchell County EMS, Floyd County Search and Rescue, and area citizens who provided grain hauling and moving equipment assisted with the incident.
