Chickasaw County Murder Trial Pushed Into 2024

It will be at least another seven months before a Charles City man, accused of a north Iowa murder over a decade ago, stands trial.
Randy Patrie is charged with first-degree murder in the October 2012 death of 70-year-old Carl Gallmeyer of Nashua. An investigation by the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office, Charles City Police and Iowa DCI led to a search of Patrie’s Charles City home in July 2013. Authorities say several items owned by Gallmeyer were found inside the residence, including the gun believed used to kill him.
Patrie has pleaded not guilty and, at one time, his trial was scheduled for this Wednesday (10.18) in Chickasaw County District Court. That was until a continuance was granted September 18th.Â
The defense asked for the continuance after the state received additional information in the case from the DCI on September 8th. Since both the defense and prosecution believe the evidence to be relevant to the case, the defense requested more time to fully process the info.
Monday (10.16), Patrie’s new trial date was set for May 20, 2024.Â
In another development, Patrie is getting new legal representation. Last week, attorney Theresa Sampson Brown made her initial court appearance, requesting to replace Joey T. Hoover as Patrie’s public defender.Â
Patrie remains in the Fayette County Jail in West Union awaiting trial.
