Last Chance to Hunt Deer Until Fall in Northeast Iowa
Four northeast Iowa counties are included in Iowa’s final deer seasons.
The Population Management January Antlerless Season allows hunters to use bows, muzzleloaders, handguns, shotguns, crossbows, or rifles .223 caliber to .500 caliber as a method of take. Counties open for hunting include Allamakee and Winneshiek, plus Appanoose, Decatur, Lucas, Monroe, and Wayne counties.
The Excess Tag January Antlerless Season, hunters may only use rifles from .223 caliber to .500 caliber as a method of take. Counties open for hunting include Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette and Winneshiek, plus Adair, Adams, Appanoose, Clarke, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Jefferson, Lee, Lucas, Madison, Monroe, Ringgold, Taylor, Union, Van Buren, Wapello, and Wayne counties.
Due to the compressed timeline, license sales will only be available over the counter, not online, until the quota is filled.Â
Both deer seasons are open until January 21st.
