Area School Districts Open New School Year with New Leaders

A handful of area school districts opened the new school year last Wednesday (07.01) with new leadership.

A former principal in the Charles City School system, Tom Harskamp is the new shared superintendent for the Nashua-Plainfield and Tripoli school districts. Most recently, Harskamp served as Head Principal at Hoover Middle School in Waterloo.

Harskamp replaces Jay Marley, who resigned after two years to become Superintendent for the Clayton Ridge School District in Guttenberg.

Osage and Riceville school districts also have a new shared superintendent in Andy McQuillen, who was previously the Roland-Story Middle/High School Principal. McQuillen replaces Barb Schwamman, who was superintendent at Osage for 11 years and shared with Riceville the past nine years.

Schwamman resigned to go  to work for the Keystone Area Education Agency.

Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Secondary Principal Nick Johnson officially added the title of Superintendent to his duties last week, taking over for Ken Kasper, who departed to become the new superintendent for the Grinnell-Newburg School District.
